Yao Ming (born September 12, 1980) is a Chinese retired basketball player, Athletic, Coach, and Sports Personality from Shanghai. He has started his career playing for the Shanghai Sharks Basketball team in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league. Apart from this, he is the only non-American player leading the NBA in All-Star votes.
He joined Shanghai at a very early stage of his life when he was a teenager and played on their senior team for five years in CBA, ended by winning a championship in his final years.
Because of a series of foot and ankle injuries he unable to make 250 games in his last six seasons and thus announced his retirement from professional basketball in July 2011, which is a piece of bad news for his Chinese and American fans.
